A new Anet contest: recreate a skill
hi,
seeing the tensions of the skillbalancing and somewhat strange skillbalances going on i thought the community itself may help for making the game a bit more fun by helping recreating unused skills that have no value at all
yes we have skillbalances but each skillbalance i see more and more dissapointed people by the skill"balances" that have happened e.g. the coming destruction of [smiter's boon]
so here is my proposal: anet should hold a contest for players to recreate certain skills that are not used at all, we could hold the contest here on one of the forums and have people judge their proposals for any skills or whatsoever, just pretty much like the design a weapon contest but in any case, there are still alot of skills that need balancing and i'm worried they'll never get balanced whatsoever
i am pretty sure there are alot of people here on these forums that know the true meaning of balanced and have the capability to recreate unused skills into useful skills that can be used for PvE and PvP (stir it up abit y'know)

/signed - but only if the contest consists of Ensign and Ensign alone. Maybe a few other people of his choice.

If anyone should know what is wrong with the game, it is the community as a whole. ANET should at least acknowledge that and give us the opportunity to help out with skill balancing ._.

Polls would be one way to check the community. Having a contest sounds like a good idea!

It might work as long as they pick the winning entry carefully.

I like the idea, something like this is really needed. Anet can't handle all the skills anymore.
There's only one problem: the current balancing team will probably be picking the winners and would only pick the changes they'd do anyways. So we'd be stuck no matter what.

To add to your idea I propose Anet makes an extra section their site called skill change submission. You select from any skill in the game and modify what it does like damage, healing, and power. When a player submits a skill there will be a list of all currently submitted skills and you can give each skill you view a thumbs up or thumbs down which will then higher or lower the rank.

Listening to 99% of the guru population on skill balance would be completely disastrous and worse than what we have now. Ensign is the only one that (used to) frequently post on guru that I would trust doing skill balance.

I say change is always good, even if the change is directly bad, because if we don't change things around, life gets boring.
For the contest, it sounds like people say there can only be one winner for the whole thing. Why not just pick out the best sounding balances. People can give suggestions *and submit to a specific place* for whatever skill they think needs to be balanced. And whatever skill changes seem to sound the best get put into place.
This would of course include some skill description changes and I'm sure many people would love to see more skills changed around for both PvE and PvP, so it can be a way to utilize the split even more.
Can't have just one person making all the skill balances, that creates bias results, as we all know.

yes i know, i've seen it but it doesn't happen
i've seen many proposals to change [wastrel's collapse] months ago and it's still not changed
Anet doesn't listen to their customers
the community also knows what could be best for the game, there are good threads here to improve the game like: armor storage, auction house, etc...
but Anet doesnt listen
i don't even see Regina here, never, we are ignored but an important part of the game

People ask for a lot of things.
Usually less than 10% of suggestions go forward.
The solution is making even more suggestions so the actual number beyond the percentage goes up.

Operable word being "suitable". I put 'no' because, while I'm not happy with the way skills are now, 99% of the community would fux them up even more than Anet could ever dream of.
Compound with this with the fact that Anet are going to be the judges, and they would not have any way to filter the garbage besides their own knowledge, and we all know how well that's served the game thus far (roll eyes).

Agreed. A poll here would never produce any beneficial results.
